This position is based in Buchholz, Germany.

Our site in Buchholz Westerwald (near Bonn) was founded in 1904. Since then, we have been recycling car batteries with the goal of recovering lead for the production of new batteries.

To strengthen our team of approximately 130 employees, we are looking for a Manager Occupational Health and Safety / Occupational Health and Safety Specialist (m/f/d) to join us at the earliest possible date.

What to Expect

  • Promoting a proactive safety culture by ensuring compliance with legal requirements in the field of occupational health and safety
  • Analyzing accidents, near misses, and health hazards, preparing related reports and notifications, and developing proposals while supporting the implementation of corrective actions
  • Inspecting and approving work areas, machinery, activities, and hazardous substances
  • Influencing supervisors and employees to ensure the proper implementation of the blood lead program, and contributing to its continuous updating in line with industry standards and best practices
  • Conducting safety walks, safety dialogues, STOP observations, and near-miss management
  • Independently creating, maintaining, and further developing risk assessments, PHILs/FMEAs, and safety-related evaluations of equipment and processes
  • Conducting occupational safety-related risk assessments and audits involving employees, workplaces, and technical equipment
  • Coordinating and collaborating with service providers regarding the provision and cleaning of work clothing and personal protective equipment for all employees
  • Collaborating with the company physician and the employers’ liability insurance association (Berufsgenossenschaft), including organizing the occupational health examinations required for employees at the plant
  • Applying, maintaining, and expanding the company-wide reporting system
  • Continuously improving the occupational health and safety management system
  • Preparing and conducting audits in accordance with DIN ISO 45001
  • Conducting HS-related training sessions and briefings

What You Bring

  • Qualification as an Occupational Health and Safety Specialist (Fachkraft für Arbeitssicherheit)
  • Completed technical degree or comparable technical training
  • Relevant professional experience in occupational health and safety within an industrial environment, ideally in the chemical, metal, or recycling industry
  • Sound knowledge of relevant legal regulations
  • Ability to raise awareness among and engage employees and managers on occupational safety topics
  • Experience working with authorities desirable
  • Experience in energy efficiency and environmental projects desirable
  • Close interdisciplinary collaboration with production, maintenance, laboratory, and environment/energy (ISO 9001, 14001, and 50001)
  • Good English skills required
